Scrimmage this Saturday, February 23rd

Come one, come all, to the season finale! Because we can't give up the season as long as there is still ice to trample, and the temperature is below freezing, we will venture out there just one more time to have a great time scrimmaging a team who needs little to no introduction: Emergency Brooms (John Farrell's team).

What: Fun, friendly broomball scrimmage game (or two, if we have time/interest)
Who: You (and your kids, wives, other family, pets, neighbors, etc.)
When: 10am to about Noon - Saturday the 23rd
Where: Logan Park - 690 13th Ave. NE Minneapolis, MN 55413

Hope to see you there!!!

Playoffs - here we go...to the bar!

With the shots a blazin' and the feet a flyin', our opponents managed to blow past our offense and defense, scoring a total of 7 times. We were able to post a respectable 4 goals during the game...and thus made our first playoff game our last stand, at least for this season. (Oh yes, we'll be back - fear us!)

Player of the week goes to Anne Okerman! She showed up to play, hustled, and hunted down the ball on the ice, wherever it may have been.

Honorable mentions go to Alex and Jonny (for their outstanding hustle throughout the entire game).

Special thanks to Anna and Christie for subbing on team Absolut.

Until next season (or next weekend when we may scrimmage John Farrell's team at Logan Park in NE Mpls.) - Ciao!!!

Game 5 - Hey, there's our referee!

With the score of 6 (we) to 3 (they) our referee decided to call it a day, and a game, without actually telling either team! Here's the last "referee sighting" of the afternoon.....what the hell dude?!

We had a great 1st half, giving our offense ample opportunities to capitalize on centering-pass after centering-pass. We kept the pressure on their defense and the ball on their end for about 90% of the time. Our ultimate scoring machine (Nat) posted a hat-trick for the day. Other goal-scorers were: Dana - 1, Pete - 1, and Matt - 1. Great job team!

Does Kate look bored here? She didn't have much to do the first half.....and that's the way we like it!

It seems as though we had a commanding enough lead throughout most of the game that everyone was relaxed.....maybe too relaxed.....(wouldn't you like to have a beer in your hand right now?)

And everyone seemed to have a good time, except the refereee.....where's that confounded referee.....

Until the playoffs - ciao!

Second practice of the season - Saturday

We had a great group of people turn out - enough to have 5 on 5 with full-time goalies! I think we worked out some of our game-time jitters, including shooting, passing, and having the confidence on the ice to keep the ball and pass it when the opportunity arises, versus just whacking it down the ice.

Great to see everyone, and below you can find the link to the rest of the pics I took that day!

See you tomorrow!

Game 4 - On our heels with amoeba o & d

This wasn't one of our prettier games in recent years. We started the game with some challenged defense, little offense, and felt like we played a fair portion of the game on our heels. (.....ummm, you got it.....no, you got it.....no, you got it.....). I don't think they scored on that one, but as we can see, it wasn't too pretty.

I think our amoeba offense and amoeba defense (see above) didn't help the situation, but in all fairness to the team, I think all of our opponents had at least several years of hockey (or professional broomball) under their belts. Excellent passing and laser shooting gave them a distinct advantage, overall, in this game.

We did have some very bright notes in the game, despite the score. Kate stepped up to the ice (as it were) attempting to fill the very large shoes of Pete as our goalie. Reasoning was to try to even up the match with 4 men and 3 women running up and down the ice at the same time. I can't say that our new offensive/defensive strategy worked all that well this week, but again, they were a pretty good team. We'll try it again next week, hoping for a better outcome.

And the shining star this week was Emily Smith! She hustled, was aggressive around our opponents goal and attacked the ball wherever it was on the ice. Way to go Emily!

"Where am I? One minute I was sleeping, and the next minute I find myslef in this red plastic tub...what the hell!?"

"If only I could wrap my mouth around this ball...it seems too big...but I'm gonna try to do it anyway, and when I get it, I'm gonna squeeze the living daylights out of it....or I could just take a nap...either would be fine with me!"

"If we're not in DisneyWorld, I'm gonna be pissed..."

Until next week.....ciao.....
